A glance at my career in publication design, photography, art/photo direction and styling.

As seen in: My design and photography studio has been featured in publications such as Life Beautiful, Babiekins, Mini Outfitter Magazine, Stylish Milk Magazine, Glamour UK, Harper's Bazaar and Abundant by Thrive Moms.

I  was featured by Des Moines Moms Blog in 2017  as someone who is making a difference in our community through the businesses they own, organizations they are involved with, and work they do. I was so honored to be among the women they saw in this group as leaders in the Des Moines business world.

Life Beautiful: I am currently the Art Director for Life:Beautiful, a Christian Women’s lifestyle magazine. I produce, style and direct photo shoots for the quarterly stories and design layouts for the magazine cover to cover. I collaborate with a talented team of professionals to produce on trend fashion finds, home decor tutorials, DIY craft projects, organizational inspirations and meal idea spreads for the busy faith driven woman.

Hello Charlie: PRESS PLAY and go behind the scenes of my creative studio that I created and owned for 9 years that worked with brands to create visual content. I had a team of 5 and together we worked with our clients to style, photograph, and art direct commercial clothing shoots for children's lines. We had clients that are business entrepreneurs like LIttle Nomad, Jonas Paul Eyewear and Billy Bibs and more established brands like Hallmark Baby

Inspiration: I started the commercial clothing angle of my photography and design business when I started posting photos of my daughter, Charlie on Instagram. I started when she was about 18 months old and she is now 5.5 and we still love doing shoots together and creating #wearitlikecharlie looks and inspirations.

MINI Outfitter Magazine: I was formerly the lead photographer for MINI Outfitter magazine and their brand partners. MO is a digital and print publication for unique and on trend clothing for kids. Shown above is my daughter, Charlie's, closet being featured in their last publication. They hire me to photograph, style and art direct photo shoots for their clients and supply images for the publication.

Publications:  I have worked closely with three publications in the last three years as a designer, style contributor, brand partner collaborator and photography contributor through my work at Hello Charlie. Below are the two I worked most heavily on a weekly basis which confirmed my love for publications and the entire creative process that goes along with them.

Abundant by Thrive Moms: Through my social media connections with Hello Charlie, I was able to be a photography contributor for two years to Thrive Moms for their social media feeds and for their digital and print publication Abundant.

Stylish Milk Magazine: For two years I was partnered with Stylish Milk Magazine which is a digital and print publication for children's lines. I was a photo and style contributor for weekly outfit inspirations and an influencer for the brand partners. Our largest project was the 2015 Holiday Gift Guide featuring 50 brands that we collaborated with to design features, write copy and offers for the holidays in a 150 page holiday guide for on trend mommy shoppers. We produced the entire project to promote handmade brands including clothing designers, food and fashion bloggers and influencers for moms, and toy and accessory designers.

Food Photography and Design: For my client Cupcake Trainings, I shot a coffee table book in Las Vagas of decadent desserts and colorful handmade products that portray the same mood through their color and textures.

Lookbooks: My Hello Charlie clients require design needs as well as photography. For several of my clients I design the seasonal lookbooks and wholesale catalogs, their business cards, hang tags and logos. Look here for some of my recent look book designs.

Films: I create short films for my clients to feature on their websites and social media. I am a graduate of Everyday Film School and have used this knowledge to art direct, edit and produce films featuring my client's products.

Art Direction: I had my own commercial photo studio where I wear all hats of the business. I managed social media content, wrote blog posts and created content for Hello Charlie. I planned and executed wardrobe styling and set styling for each shoot. I booked and coordinated the talent and manage a group of over 200 local mini Des Moines models. During the shoots I art directed, photographed and managed my team of stylists, freelance photographers and interns. If my clients need look books I designed those, I have done logos, hang tags and business cards as well.

Clients: Many of my clients were small business owners like myself. Several are designers that hand sew their own products like Billy Bibs, to new businesses that are on Kickstarter and Shark Tank (Little Nomad) to more established brands like Hallmark Baby.

Content Creation: every small business owner has to wear many hats. I created and directed my own shoots to keep my readers interested in my business. Many times they want to know how I made a prop or set so I would break out the steps and write a blog piece that can travel across Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. I have to engage my audience on every platform and keep their interest with every post.

Product Photography: styling and photographing product photos and flatlays are one of my favorite things to do. I love mixing and matching patterns and textures to create visually appealing images. I offer a "Visual Content" package to my clients and create flatlays and other styled shots so they have images to use on social media and for ads.

Branding: I create my own branding for Hello Charlie and plan and strategize my content for all social media channels. My Pinterest and 15K Instagram followers see us as influencers in current trends for children's clothing.

Publication Design: I have 13 years experience in publication and layout design. My four years as a Senior Designer at The Stelter Company allowed me to work on newsletters, brochures and other marketing materials for clients such as American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts of America, The Field Museum and The Shedd Aquarium. This intense amount of design work prepared me to easily transition into layout design freelance work and eventually into look book designs for my commercial photography clients. I went on to do freelance work for several companies that needed daily layout work including The Stelter Company and Love Scott Agency in Des Moines, various Insurance and financial companies and Landmark in Milford, IA.
